Movement on Foynes and Velorail for Mayo

Vegetation clearance has begun on the Foynes branch. This is to enable Shannon Foynes Port Co. to undertake a detailed study of the condition of the line, so that a decision can be made whether to run freight trains on the branch.

There is no guaranteed outcome to the study, but the signs are hopeful that real progress will be made to get the line back up and running. More news on this as we get it.

Meanwhile in Mayo, the Mayo Advertiser is reporting that a proposed Velorail scheme in Kiltimagh on the Claremorris-Collooney line could be running by the Summer of 2016. Mayo County Council estimate that there could be 20,000-30,000 visitors and users of the Velorail attraction.

Velorail is quite common in mainland Europe and allows visitors to travel along old railway lines in pedal powered vehicles.
